Sony not considering an online service for Playstation 3

The Official Playstation Magazine has reported that the entertainment giant Sony has decided against starting an online gaming service on the lines of Xbox Live run by Microsoft for their Xbox. With Microsoft’s Xbox 360 due to be out later this month, Xbox Live has been updated to handle the new console and latest games, which would be released to compliment the release of Microsoft Xbox 360.

Sony is going to let the gaming publishers run their own services to let the consumer play amongst each other on the internet. This is what they have done with the current Playstation 2. Nintendo too is planning to launch Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to compliment their upcoming Nintendo Revolution gaming machine.

As a result, it becomes complicated for the gamers of the Sony Playstation 3 to maintain separate accounts on different servers for different games. Sony would be facing issues to maintain standards for the online gaming experience for their Xbox 360 console. Many gamers around claim that a large portion of success of the Xbox gaming machine goes onto the online experience provided by the Xbox Live service. Sony of course thinks otherwise.

Only time will tell if such a decision by the company would go against it in the long run as it would be competing against the Xbox 360 gaming console with their Playstation 3 gaming console.
