Walt Disney acquires Living Mobile
Entertainment giants Walt Disney have announced their plans to acquire the German game developer and publisher Living Mobile. The maker of animated films now aims to expand its role in the European cell phone games market. They have not released the financial details behind the acquisition but now Living Mobile would be merged into the Walt Disney Internet Group Europe.
Living Mobile was founded in 2001 and they already publish more than 70 mobile games across Europe and Singapore. Some of the popular titles include Hudson Soft’s “Bomberman” and “Lode Runner” and “Capcom’s Resident Evil”. This news also comes after the company announced their own branded mobile telephony service called the Disney Mobile.
This is not the first such acquisition by Walt Disney. Earlier this year, they acquired British-based interactive TV games developer Minds Eye. Disney has also confirmed that they would continue to publish third-party content as well as its own Disney-branded content. Disney would be releasing the titles made by Living Mobile under the Living Mobile Brand.
Mark Handler, Managing Director of Walt Disney Internet Group International said in a statement: “Purchasing Living Mobile is part of that commitment. They have a proven track record in game publishing and world-class talent in this new and highly competitive game category, and their strong, existing library makes us a serious competitor in games.”
