Electronic Arts to offer digital distribution for its software
World’s largest videogame publisher and the developer of many popular gaming titles and series are now entering the market of selling its software products online through digital distribution. Electronic Arts has announced that the new expansion pack for its popular gaming title Battlefield 2, Special Forces is on sale and can be downloaded from their website.
They have launched a specific utility for this purpose called EA Downloader. This enables the user to download titles from the servers of the gaming company in a similar manner which Valve uses its highly successful Steam service. They have priced this expansion pack of Battlefield 2 game at around USD 29.99.
Interestingly, the pack is already allowed for sale and download despite the fact that it’s officially due to be released in the next couple of days. Purchasers for this expansion pack will not be however able to play it until 1pm EST on November 22. This would help the company ease up the load on their servers when the expansion pack is officially released in the market.
The company said that Battlefield 2: Special Forces would be featuring the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available to man. The game would let players fight for any one of six Special Forces teams – Navy SEALs, Russian Spetznas, MEC Special Forces, rebel groups, insurgents, or the SAS.
