Sony adds RSS and WMA support to Playstation Portable

Entertainment giant Sony continues to evolve its Playstation Portable gaming handheld device. The latest update for this gaming machine brings support for the RSS syndication format and more importantly Windows Media Audio playing support! The update comes through a firmware update, which was launched yesterday.

The RSS support is visible as a button in the PSP’s network menu, which also features the Internet browser and LocationFree Player icons. PSP owners would now be able to add RSS feeds from Web sites they visit by clicking on the relevant RSS feed buttons or links. RSS feeds would be available through the RSS Channel menu.

WMA is not the only feature Sony is added which is connected to their rivals in other fields (Microsoft in this case). This update also brings support for podcasts, a market which is more connected to Apple and their iPods. The Windows Media Audio support brings ability to play WMA files through the PSP’s music menu. However, Sony PSP would not be supporting certain formats of this standard, which are encrypted with some DRM technologies.

The latest update is available via the PSP’s network update function or from the Sony’s website.
