Electronic Arts acquires mobile game provider Jamdat Mobile
World’s biggest video game publisher Electronic Arts has announced its plan to acquire the mobile game provider Jamdat Mobile Inc. The deal is worth around $680 million and comes just a while after another gaming giant Sony acquired the makers of Killzone game, Guerrilla Games. EA would be paying around $27 in cash for each share of Jamdat stock and assume outstanding stock options.
This price per share offer is a premium of around 19 percent over the current value of the company in the share market. Electronic Arts expects the deal to be completed by their fiscal fourth quarter which ends on March 31 and would help them gain a major foothold in the growing and lucrative mobile game market.
The mobile gaming market is estimated to be worth around USD 1 Billion worldwide. EA incidentally also went into a deal with India based Indiagames yesterday and they would now be supplying mobile games to various mobile operators in the growing Indian mobile consumer base.
Jamdat Mobile Inc. is based in Los Angeles with 350 employees worldwide and is one of the world’s leading publishers in wireless entertainment applications. Some of the popular games from this company for the mobile products include Tetris, Bejeweled, and Jamdat Bowling.
Larry Probst, EA chairman and chief executive officer said in a statement about their decision to acquire the company: “We decided we wanted to move really fast on this, so we joined with the leader in North America to enable our content to be deployed on mobile phones more aggressively here and globally.”
