Nintendo DS having a sensational time in Japan

Microsoft has had little success with their impressive Xbox 360 gaming console in the Japanese market. However, Nintendo is beating all the market expectations with their Nintendo DS handheld gaming console. This gaming machine is continuing to dominate the console sales in the Japanese market with a range of new games available for it from the makers Nintendo.

The latest figures from the market are from the week, when Microsoft debuted their Xbox 360 in this high profile gaming market. And it shows that the Nintendo DS dominated everything else. Much of this credit would go to the arrival of Mario Kart DS game for this machine. Nintendo sold around 299,000 units during the week and continued their domination over the Sony’s Playstation Portable device.

Nintendo has continuously dominated their rivals Sony which managed to sell just around 86,000 units in the same period. DS benefited from the sales of the newly launched Mario Cart DS which itself was a big sell out. Around 219,000 units of this game were sold in this period and along with Animal Crossing: Wild World, which sold another 121,000 units, Nintendo, dominated the videogame sales as well in the Japanese market.

However, the top selling game was Sony’s PS2 title Rogue Galaxy with sales of around 238,000 units in its first week at retail. Sega also made its presence felt with their PS2 adventure title Ryu ga Gotoku that sold around 134,000 units. Microsoft failed to enter into the top 10 of this list containing the gaming titles with none of their Xbox 360 titles managing enough sales. In fact, some regular games of Nintendo DS sold more units than the Xbox 360 gaming console itself!

Microsoft managed to sell just around 44,000 units of their Xbox 360 gaming machine, which continues to remain in shortage in the other markets in North America and Europe. They are now eagerly waiting for the launch of the title, Dead or Alive 4 to arrive in the market to heat up the battle of the gaming consoles in the market.
