Valve launches 64-bit versions of Half-Life 2 and Lost Coast

Microprocessor Company AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) proved their expertise in the 64-bit processor market when they launched their products before the market leaders Intel could. They have now worked with the videogame manufacturer Valve and the collaboration has resulted in the 64-bit Source gaming technology.

Valve in addition has also launched the 64-bit versions of their popular gaming titles Half-Life 2 and Lost Coast. These games come with support for the AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX processor-based systems. The companies claim that the package is the ultimate 64-bit gaming platform for PC enthusiasts.

Valve is launching these new updated versions specially developed for the AMD processors through its online platform for delivering games and digital content, Steam. The existing owners of the 32-bit versions are also being provided with these customized editions of the games. Gabe Newell, Valve’s co-founder and president said in a statement: “Bringing the Source technology to the AMD64 processor platform is an important step in the evolution of our game content and tools.”

He added: “This investment in future processing will allow us, and third party developers working with Source, to push the boundaries of the gaming experience.” Bob Brewer, corporate vice president, Desktop Division, AMD’s Microprocessor Solutions Sector also chipped in with his comments: “AMD Athlon 64 FX processors are targeted for systems designed to provide the ultimate experience for a new generation of power users running demanding applications.”

AMD claims that their AMD Athlon 64 FX processor is the first Windows compatible 64-bit PC processor designed specifically for PC enthusiasts.
