Market research estimates Sony could sell 200 million units of Playstation 3

The battle has begun with Microsoft launching their next generation gaming console Xbox 360 in the Japanese market. The average Japanese gamer has not shown much liking for this considering the demand is low and Microsoft has sold just a percentage of units they sold in the North American and European market. Sony is now aiming to launch their Playstation 3 gaming console in the next couple of months to bring their contender in this high profile segment.

In fact, market research has also claimed that many gamers throughout the world are deferring their decision to buy an Xbox 360 to wait for the launch of the Playstation 3 console. And the latest news in is that another market research has revealed that the entertainment giant Sony can sell as many as 200 million units of the PS3 in the five years time after its release next year.

The report also says that 12 million units are expected to be sold in the first year itself. This is quite surprising considering Sony has sold just around half of this number of their current Playstation 2 console in the same period. Perhaps, the research has taken into consideration the fact that gaming has gone more prime time now and the market is a lot bigger for such consoles.

On the other hand, Microsoft has recently said on uncertain terms that they expect to reach to around a billion gamers with their Xbox 360 gaming console.

Awwww…I find it’s so cute that M$ comes out to say that it expects to sell near a billion simply because market research estimates 200 million PS3s. Poor baby Bill Gates hates to lose the lime light. F.Y.I Microsoft, before you go and say how badly you think you are going to beat Sony, how about meeting demand for your product first.
