Nintendo sells 5.44 million units of DS in Japan
Despite the fact that media putting its bet on Sony and Microsoft when it comes to battle between the next generation gaming consoles, Nintendo is not doing bad either. Microsoft has already launched their Xbox 360 gaming console and Sony would be following their hugely successful PS2 with Playstation 3 in the coming months. Nintendo is also scheduled to launch their Revolution gaming console with its innovative and highly impressive TV remote shaped controller.
There is another market in the gaming consoles where Microsoft lacks an entry. The handheld gaming console market is being dominated by Nintendo with Sony trying to break its monopoly through their Sony Playstation Portable gaming device. While, the Sony PSP has shown impressive results, it is the Nintendo DS, which is rocking the gamers in the Japanese market.
Nintendo has just announced that they have managed to sell more than 5.44 million units of Nintendo DS in their domestic market since its launch last year in the month of December. This makes DS the fastest seller device in the handheld gaming market ever. Nintendo took 14 months to hit the 5 million mark with their Game Boy Advance and Sony sold their five millionth unit of the PS2 after 17 months of its launch.
