Nintendo reports improved profits, launches Nintendo DS Lite
Japanese videogame company Nintendo has reported strong third quarter results. The company has immensely benefited from increased demand for their DS handheld gaming console and gaming software. However, they have surprisingly kept its forecast for the full year lower than expected.
The company is a legend in itself as it is credited with the development of popular gaming icons like Mario, Donkey Kong, and Pokemon. They have also had a great holiday season of sales last year and are said to be dominating the local markets with the DS selling more than rival Sony’s Playstation Portable console.
In addition, Nintendo has benefited from the huge demand for the gaming titles like “Nintendogs”, “Animal Crossing DS” and “Mario Kart DS”. The company also launched a redesigned version of its DS portable device, which is thinner and lighter than its current avatar. They call this edition Nintendo DS Lite and it is available for sale in the domestic market for around $145.
Nintendo has also announced plans to launch Nintendo DS Lite in the US and European market later this year after meeting the initial demand in the domestic market of Japan.
