Videogames are popular amongst parents too

If you thought that only the kids in a typical family play games on the new generation video gaming console, you were wrong. A survey has found that parents and adults are increasingly becoming part of the users of these gaming consoles, which are very popular products in the retail markets.

A survey conducted on the national level has found that as many as 35% of the parents surveyed played games too. And interestingly, 85% of these parents play games with their kids. This survey was commissioned by the Entertainment Software Association and would make the game developers very happy.

The survey had other interesting statistics as well. An average gamer spends close to 19 hours on the gaming consoles in a month. This comes to around half the time they spend playing outdoor games with their friends. Even more interesting is the fact that parents believe that playing videogames with their kids have made their relationship with the kids more close.

The typical age of a game playing parent is 37 and mothers are as active in this group as dads are. Another fact that came out from this survey was that a majority of parents agreed to the fact that government has little role to play to protect the kids from playing violent games. This would help the gaming industry challenge the claims made by the government related to sales of violent games sold to minors.
