Nintendo DS top seller in the Japanese market
Nintendo might be considered as the underdog in the war of the next generation gaming console by the media analysts with Sony and Microsoft expecting to fight it out to garner the consumer’s attention, but they are not doing a bad job.
The company claims that their upcoming Nintendo Revolution would be a darn impressive product with capabilities smart enough to handle the competition from Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony Playstation 3. And it is hard to ignore their claims considering the company has managed to outsell Sony’s Playstation Portable gaming machine with their Nintendo DS.
Nintendo might not be doing very well in the North American market, but it continues to rule their domestic market of Japan. They are doing well with both their DS handheld console and gaming media sales. Media Create, a leading analyst firm in Japan has revealed that during the week of January 16th-22nd, Nintendo held nine out of the top ten spots in software sales.
Some of the huge hits from Nintendo in the videogame segment are Animal Crossing 2, Super Mario Strikers, Brain Training and Brain Training 2, Mario Kart DS, and Monster Hunter portable. In addition, the Nintendo DS is also the #1 amongst system sales with 64,515 units sold during this week.
Microsoft Xbox 360 continues to struggle with just around 3,616 units sold in the Japanese market during the week. This placed them at a disappointing 7th position in the top ten list of consoles sold in Japan.
The top 10 consoles sold during the January 16th-22nd week:
1. DS: 64,515 (210,177)
2. PSP: 38,271 (228,714)
3. PS2: 26,271 (146,097)
4. GBASP: 7,912 (35,338)
5. GBM: 4,653 (22,813)
6. GC: 4,490 (23,378)
7. X360: 3,616 (17,200)
8. GBA: 236 (1,033)
9. Xbox: 83 (358)
