Nvidia launches AGP based Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS
Graphic card manufacturer Nvidia Corp. has announced that they are making available an AGP version of their popular Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS graphics chip. This would be the first such chip of this family to come in the AGP format.
These chips would be made available initially through U.S. retailers Best Buy and CompUSA. In the later stages, stores like Newegg.com, TigerDirect.com, and ZipZoomFly.com would start selling them online.
The pricing structure is not available yet through they are expected to be priced between $299 and $349. The vendors of course would be deciding the final pricing of these cards in the retail market after taking care of profits and taxes.
As per a company statement, the GeForce 7800 AGP card represents an upgrade from the GeForce 6800 GT with its advanced GeForce 7 Series features and performance at a competitive price. These cards would also feature found on other Nvidia GeForce 78xx cards, which are currently available in PCI versions only.
Ujesh Desai, general manager of desktop GPUs at Nvidia said in a statement: “GeForce 7800 GPUs are widely considered the pinnacle of graphics performance for PC gaming enthusiasts, and today’s product introduction will allow a lot of extremely powerful AGP systems to benefit from upgrading to the GeForce 7 Series architecture.”
He further added: “PC gaming enthusiasts with tricked-out AGP systems have a lot invested in their computers so the new GeForce 7800 GS AGP GPU will allow them to extend the life of their systems, and keep their PCs on the bleeding edge.”
