Microsoft in for developing standards for mobile gaming
Software giants and the manufacturers of the Xbox series of gaming consoles, Microsoft has announced their decision to join video-game makers including Electronic Arts in an effort to create standards for games played on cellular telephones and other mobile communications devices.
These companies would be involved in developing of standards for mobile platform based videogames. Other firms included in this deal are Nokia, Texas Instruments, Activision, and Samsung Electronics.
One of the prime reasons behind establishing this consortium was to setup standards to lower the costing of game development for different platforms. Paul-Jon McNealy, an American Technology Research analyst expressed his views on this issue: “The structure for developing content for mobile platforms is heavily fragmented, so there is a need. Standards bodies are usually very challenged to get things passed — everyone has an agenda.”
And Microsoft’s participation in this group gives us more hints on their possible entry into the portable gaming market.
