Infineon blamed for Microsoft Xbox 360 shortages
Media Group San Jose Mercury News has posted a news article claiming that a new type of memory chip used in the Xbox 360 console is the reason behind the shortage in the market of this next generation gaming console.
This news comes despite the fact that Microsoft has cleared that the shortage should no longer be a problem in a couple of weeks as they have sorted out the issues in the production line manufacturing the consoles.
The article cites unnamed sources and claims that these chips are manufactured by a German company named Infineon Technologies. This company has been facing manufacturing them at the right pace and this has delayed the shipments of the gaming consoles in the market.
Author Takahashi’s report claim that Infineon has failed to produce enough GDDR3 (graphics double data rate) memory chips which are also manufactured by the memory market giants Samsung. And making the situation worse is the high failure rate of these chips, which slows down the process even more.
