Electronic Arts lowers prices of current generation videogames

World’s largest producer of videogames, Electronic Arts has announced their decision to lower the prices of games developed for the current generation of video gaming consoles. Looks like the game developers and publishers are facing a tough time with the transition to the next generation of games for the consoles like Xbox 360.

With videogame sales slowing down in the market and Sony probably delaying their upcoming Playstation 3 gaming console, it is up to the videogame developers and publishers to make it more interesting for the gamers to go out and buy the newest games.

Electronic Arts had recently admitted that they are failing to meet the expectations when it comes to sale of their videogame units and this might be just the direct result of that phenomenon. EA has just announced that their upcoming releases The Godfather and Black would be priced at $39.95 when they hit store shelves.

This is almost a discount of around 20% compared to earlier new releases from the company. EA spokesman Jeff Brown said in a statement on this company decision: “$39 is resonating with consumers given the transition. There are indications that $39 is a solid and sustainable price point.”

It would now be interesting to see if the other gaming developers follow this route and cut prices of their new offerings to bring in customers.
