ATI Technologies reports improved profits

ATI Technologies is the world’s second largest maker of computer-graphics chips and the company has just released their second- quarter results that have beaten the market estimates.

However, the net income still fell down to $34.1 million, or 13 cents a share, from $57.2 million, or 22 cents, a year earlier. The profits were 17 cents a share, beating the market estimates of 10 cents.

The sales were up 10 percent at $672 million. ATI gained massively due to increasing sales of consumer products like handheld devices. The company particularly gained due to the royalty from the sales of gaming console Microsoft Xbox 360 which was launched in the last quarter of 2005.

The shares of ATI gained as a result as they were up by around 9%. The company also put out their forecast for the coming months.
