Microsoft acquires Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead Studios
Software giants and the maker of Xbox 360 gaming console, Microsoft has said that they are acquiring U.K. developer Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead Studios. This would add to an extensive range of video game developing studios owned by the company.
Microsoft has worked hard to compete against the market leaders Sony in the videogame console market and content has become a big part of this battle. This deal would mean that Lionhead Studios might no longer make games for the Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 consoles.
Molyneux had already produced his game Fable as an exclusive for Microsoft’s Xbox machine. That game sold as many as 2 million copies in the market. Sony is due to launch their PS3 console sometime later this year and Microsoft needs all they can have to compete with their already launched Xbox 360 console.
The company would benefit from an impressive range of games, which are developed exclusively for the Xbox 360 console, and this is one of those steps, which would ensure that. Microsoft had also acquired other gaming studios like Rare Ltd. and Bungie Software Products Corp.
