Microsoft prepares for the arrival of Sony Playstation 3 console in Japan

Microsoft has tried hard to lure the Japanese gamers to buy their Xbox 360 gaming console. However, with Sony due to launch their Playstation 3 console sometime later this year, Microsoft would have to work even harder.

The company has now said that Xbox 360 game console users in Japan will have more than three times as many game titles available by December as now. Microsoft plans to have on sale as many as 80 games for this console as the day of launch of PS3 arrives.

Microsoft has already suffered declining sales of their console due to lack of availability of gaming media, which is relevant to this market. Some of these new titles being planned for launch in Japan are Hudson Soft Co. Ltd.’s “Bomberman” action game and Capcom Co. Ltd.’s “Dead Rising” survival horror.

Takashi Sensui, general manager of the Japanese unit’s Xbox division said in a statement: “Microsoft’s head of games division, Peter Moore, has repeatedly said that there would be no true success for Microsoft without Xbox’s success in Japan. Xbox has created such a stir in overseas markets including the United States and Europe. As the manager of Xbox operations in Japan, my task is to achieve the same success in Japan.”
