Sony expects PS3 launch to be hotter than Xbox 360
Sony Playstation 3 is scheduled to launch sometime later this year. We do not know how much it is going to cost and we do not know the exact date of its launch. Nevertheless, Sony is sure that they would be successful with the launch of this next generation gaming console and they believe that it would sell more units than Xbox 360 during the launch period.
The company has already delayed the launch of Sony PS3 several times and is not expected to get it out in the retail stores by November this year. Sony said in a statement today that they are expecting to sell around 6 million units of the PS3 during the first four to five months after launch.
Microsoft is expecting to touch sales of Xbox 360 between 4.5 million units and 5.5 million during about the first seven months.
Nobuyuki Oneda, Sony’s chief financial officer said in a statement that the company has spent about $41 million during the past year on development and launch preparations for the PlayStation 3.
He added: “After the introduction of the PS3 we will focus our efforts on expanding the platform as rapidly as possible. We will also attempt to lower the manufacturing costs by reducing the number of parts used in hardware and reducing the costs of the semiconductors and other key components. By so doing, we aim to bring the PS3 business to profitability at the earliest possible time.”
