Microsoft confirmed HD DVD for Xbox 360
Sony is due to ship their Sony Playstation 3 gaming console with an integrated Blu-Ray drive later this year. Microsoft however was the first one of the three gaming console makers to launch their next generation gaming system though they had to ship the Xbox 360 with a regular DVD drive.
The company had said about a possible HD DVD attachment for this Xbox 360 gaming console and now it is confirmed. Microsoft has said that this add-on drive would connect using the USB 2.0 port on the gaming console. Owners of the Xbox 360 would be able to use the console itself to output HD video and surround sound.
They have however not revealed the pricing structure of this upcoming attachment HD DVD drive. The company just said that they are keeping this good news for just another day. HD DVD drives are expected to be a lot cheaper to produce than the competitive Blu-Ray drive. This gives Microsoft huge potential to price them competitively and take the fuzz out of the upcoming Playstation 3 gaming console.
For people interested in this HD DVD drive attachment for the Xbox 360, the company has started a special Blog.
