PlayStation 3 to cost $499 in North America

Sony has finally revealed the pricing of their upcoming gaming console Playstation 3 and it would cost USD 499 for the consumers in the United States.

Sony Playstation 3 would arrive in the market in November this year and would take on Microsoft’s Xbox 360, which launched in the month of November last year! This gives Microsoft a complete year to take the advantage of being the first one in the market to come out with their next generation gaming console.

Sony has been hugely successful with their Playstation 2 console, which fairly outsold the Microsoft Xbox in the market. However, it would be tough for them to challenge the Xbox 360 as the PS3 has already been massively delayed.

The standard version of the PS3 would ship with a 20-gigabyte hard drive and would launch in Japan on November 11. November 17 would see the launch in other major markets of the world. Sony PS3 would cost 59,800 yen ($536) in Japan and 499 euros ($634) in Europe. That is a high price to pay for this console in the European markets!

Sony also showcased their new controller, which now features motion-sensitivity mimicking the feature of Nintendo Wii’s controller.

Sony would also be selling a PS3 with a 60-gigabyte hard drive for $599 in the United States. This would be for the serious gamers who want to get the best out of their machines.

However, all the Sony PS3 units would ship with a Blu-Ray drive which itself makes it a great value for money considering standalone HD DVD drives are selling for USD 500 in the market right now!
