Nintendo profits down but interesting times ahead
Japan’s Nintendo Co. Ltd. has come out with their revenue reports and the profits are down 19 percent. The company suffered from slowing demand for its GameCube game console and software. This report also resulted in Nintendo shares going down by 8%.
Nintendo is however experiencing strong demand for its DS hand-held machines in Japan. In addition, some games including “Nintendogs” and “Brain Training for Adults” are also hugely successful.
However, the popularity of DS failed to cover up for the falling demand for Nintendo GameCube console.
This year should be exciting for the company as they are doing pretty well with the DS and have just recently launched DS Lite. Nintendo would also be launching the hugely anticipated Wii gaming console later this year, which should be a huge success in the international market.
They are expecting an operating profit of 110 billion yen ($975 million) for the current business year to March 2007.
