Videogaming is an expensive hobby now
The war between Sony and Microsoft to launch the most powerful and capable system has resulted in a situation where being a serious gamer need some serious cash inflow. Gaming has already become a serious business with professional tournaments being organized around the world… And both Sony and Microsoft are making sure that the next generation of gamers would have to be rich… very rich.
Microsoft has already launched their Xbox 360 gaming console and the higher end model with all the frills cost a massive $400. If this was not enough, Sony would be launching their Sony Playstation 3 console later this year at around $600 for the fully loaded version.
Add to this the added cost of owning each new game developed for this platform and we are talking about some serious money… Only Nintendo has a console which might suit a casual gamer as they have confirmed that their upcoming gaming console Nintendo Wii would cost less than $250 in the US market. They are offering an innovative controller and interesting game play for most of their planned games.
Interestingly, users might have to invest in a HD television set to enjoy the capabilities of the higher end version of the PS3. Sony’s PS3 also ships with a Blu-Ray drive, which is a brand new storage format and is yet to be proven in the market. If the Blu-Ray format fails, it would cause some serious disappointment for the Sony and the gamers who invest in this expensive console.
Overall, the market is betting on the success of the Nintendo Wii console. So are we!
