Howard Stringer believes Sony would have success with Playstation 3

Sony Corp Chairman Howard Stringer has said that the company knows that they have put themselves in a tough position with the high price of the upcoming Sony Playstation 3 gaming console but they are pretty confident that it would be successful and they would come out victorious.

He also expressed confidence on the company’s Blu-Ray format for next generation storage drive as it takes on rivals Toshiba and their HD DVD format.

Sony Playstation 3 and the Blu-Ray format are both crucial for the company as they have invested a lot of time and money on their development. The company is going through a tough face and would suffer big losses in the first couple of years of Playstation 3 sales in the market.

Stringer said in a statement on his views: “The price of the PS3 is high … but you’re paying for (its) potential. Obviously, it’s a higher-risk strategy as all new inventions are but if the PS3 lives up to its total potential, then I don’t think anyone will be worried about Nintendo or Xbox’s cheaper price.”
