French publisher Ubisoft sets up a unit in Sofia, Bulgaria
French publisher Ubisoft has confirmed that they are setting up a new studio in Sofia, Bulgaria. The company is aiming to develop more titles in-house and this project is part of that expansion plan.
The company has for now 21 employees working in this new studio. This includes a core group of 11 staff members who have recently completed work on Xbox 360 flight simulation title, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII.
This group is being led by Alexandru-Ion Radu who was recently appointed director of recruitment and training at Ubisoft’s Romania studio. Ubisoft is now planning to expand this development group to around 40 professionals by the end of the year.
Christine Burgess-Quémard, executive director of Ubisoft’s Worldwide Studios said on these new developments: “The opening of our new studio in Bulgaria is part of Ubisoft’s ongoing strategy to develop major titles internally, ensuring creativity and innovation. The core team of developers from Bulgaria has already proved itself and we look forward to expanding our studio through recruitment of the talented local engineers and artists.”
