Samsung starts mass production of GDDR4 DRAM memory

Samsung Electronics has confirmed that they have started volume production of the fastest DRAM memory for PCs. The company claims that its GDDR4 DRAM memory offers a 33 percent speed enhancement for image processing.

The company added that this memory is fabricated on 80nm process technology and has a peak data processing rate of 2.4Gbit/s. they would be offering this 512Mbit GDDR4 memory in a 32-bit data bus configuration.

Samsung is using JEDEC-approved standards for signal noise reduction, which includes data bus inversion and multi-preamble specifications. The specification for this memory chip has been specifically developed with graphics accelerator companies such as NVIDIA and ATI in mind.

An NVIDIA spokesperson said about this memory technology: “The graphics industry has an insatiable demand for high bandwidth memories and GDDR4 is poised to become the next major evolutionary step for our graphics processors.”
