Sony confirms extended backward compatibility with PS and PS2 for Playstation 3
Videogame console maker Sony has now confirmed that the game saves from the older gaming consoles Playstation and Playstation 2 would be compatible with their upcoming gaming console Sony Playstation 3.
The company said that the game saves from these consoles can be moved over to next-gen console, provided the user has the adapter to move the data from the memory chips to the hard disk provided on the PS3.
Sony mentions on their PS3 website: “To use saved data on a PlayStation 2 memory card, you must copy the data onto a virtual memory card within the hard disk. This requires a PS2/PSone memory card adaptor to copy the data to your PlayStation 3. A memory card adaptor is designed to edit, up/download game saves to and from EMS flash card or smart media card.”
They have not however clarified on whether they plan to provide such an adapter or the users would have to rely on third party add-ons for this data transfer.
