Microsoft finally showcases the HD DVD drive for Xbox 360
Software giants and the makers of the Xbox range of gaming consoles Microsoft have showcased their upcoming HD-DVD attachment for their Xbox 360 console.
This device was displayed at the DVD Forum in Los Angeles and the company confirmed that it would be available in retail markets by Christmas this year.
Kevin Collins, senior program manager at Microsoft added that the drive would act like an external CD-ROM and would feed the data to the Xbox 360.
All the processing would be done inside the gaming console. This would make it a lot less expensive than standalone HD DVD drives currently available in the market.
Peter Moore, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business unit added: “Our developers are very comfortable with the [Xbox 360's] storage options. I think they’re utilizing Xbox Live very creatively, and the hard drive, we have a very strong attach rate for the hard drive.”
