Sony delays the launch of Playstation 3 in Europe
Sony has finally accepted the fact, which the market analysts had been speculating since sometime now. The company has confirmed that production delays mean that the console launch would only take place in the European market by March 2007.
Sony had originally planned to launch the Playstation 3 console worldwide by the end of the current year to cash in on the upcoming holiday season.
They have however confirmed that they are still on track for a launch in Japan and US by this coming November. This would be followed by the console’s worldwide launch.
The problem is said to be in the production of the Blu-Ray drive, which would ship with the PS3 gaming console. Sony added that they are facing delays related to the wide array of languages used in this region.
Sony added that they are still aiming at the target of shipping six million new gaming machines by March 2007. However, the current year would only see delivery of just around 2 million consoles instead of the originally planned 4 million units.
