The World GameMaster Tournament successfully concludes in Mumbai – Teams from Mumbai and Bangalore emerge victorious!!!

ASUS India showcases its best notebooks and computing solutions at the event.

Mumbai, India October 17, 2006: After a long and tough battle of skills, the most thrilling World GameMaster Tournament (WGT) finally concluded in Mumbai on the 15th October 2006. The vast atrium of the popular Inorbit Mall at Malad was converted into a battlefield for two entire days where 9 teams from 4 cities – Bangalore, Pune, Chennai and Mumbai. These teams had earlier qualified in preliminary rounds in their respective cities.

Teams in the amateur and pro leagues tested their wits, speed and skills for winning the Counter Strike and DoTa All Stars PC games.

ASUS, the leading PC component and notebook brand was the official provider and the main organizer for WGT in India. Intel was the official computing platform and ATI was the official chipset provider for this competition.

The event was inaugurated by Ms. Selina Zhang, Marcomm Head, ASUSTeK, which is one of the leading PC Component and Notebook Computer manufacturer. Also present for the inauguration were the Head of Sales ATI Technologies, India, Mr. Rajshekhar Bhatt, Mr. Albert Tung, Country Manager, ASUS Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Team ATE from Mumbai emerged as the first place winners in the Counter Strike Pro League match, followed by team X-ES from Pune in the second place. The amateur team who took away the first place in Counter Strike was team Mean Machine from Mumbai and team Indian Army from Pune won the second place. The DoTa All Stars game saw team Manay of Bangalore in the first place and team Acid from Mumbai in the second place.

High end gaming hardware worth Rs. 2 Lac and cash prizes worth Rs. 80,000/- have been given in this competition. This competition has been successfully held in more than 20 countries around the world.

The PCs used for gaming were powered by high end graphics cards and motherboards from ASUS, and the display used was the upcoming ASUS PM17TA LCD monitor. The graphics cards were powered by ATI GPUs. Intel‘s latest Core2Duo processors were used in the gaming PC systems. Special offers were also announced for consumers to buy these special gaming systems after the event.

The gamers were in the average age group of 15-25 and are among India’s most recognized PC Gamers. According to Mr. Amit Jaokar, Technical Promotion Manager, ASUS India, “The response to the WGT has been phenomenal. All the gamers are glad to have had the opportunity to compete against gamers from other cities. With such competitions PC gaming is now earning the place of a respectable sport in India.”

This is the first time in our experience that a company has taken care of all the requirements of gamers, which include transportation, meals and stay. We definitely look forward to participating in the WGT every year!”

Most prominent among them were the upcoming ASUS Lamborghini and the S6 leather notebooks, which redefine the concept of luxury and style combined with superior technology. Other business and portability models were also shown. Also on display and sale were high end gaming PCs empowered with high end ASUS hardware. ASUS Lcd monitors were also used in the gaming. Special offers were available to end users during this event.
