Whay are gamers polarized?

“However, diversity only works if it is accompanied by tolerance, and here I think the computer gaming community is sadly lacking. Most of the forum discussions I have read have involved the most close-minded expression of preferences I have ever seen in any context. Belittling those who disagree is commonplace. People insult each other and never seem to modify strong views in light of arguments they hear from others. There is clearly no correlation whatsoever between playing ability and civility.”
