Sony might not meet Playstation 3 production goals

Sony Corp has said in a statement that they might fail to reach this year’s shipment target for the PlayStation 3 game console.

The problem this time around is shortage of parts related to the drive’s Blu-Ray drive. The company has plans to ship two million PlayStation 3 players this year to the U.S. and Japan. Broader term goals are to ship six million units worldwide by March next year.

If they indeed fail to deliver on the latest promises, it would mean more good news for their rivals Microsoft and Nintendo. Microsoft launched their Xbox 360 gaming console last year and Nintendo would be coming out with Wii next month.

Sony had earlier said in September that they were cutting the 2006 rollout for the PlayStation 3 from four million to two million units. They also announce the delay in launch of the console in the European market.

I link SONY’s problems to its launching of the blasphemous movie, The DaVinci Code. I was upset and I participated in several of the over 2000 protests. Since then, Sony’s fortunes have been going down, down, down.
