Sony to use law to block Playstation 3 imports to Europe before launch

Sony is due to launch its next generation videogame console Playstation 3 in the US and Japanese market later this year.

However, the Europe launch was delayed and the PS3 would be launched in Europe sometime next year.

This means that the gamers in Europe would have to wait for a couple of months before they can get access to a Playstation 3 console.

However, considering these gaming consoles can easily be imported from other markets, it is crucial for Sony to take steps to control illegal shipments to the European markets.

The company has now said that they would use the “full scope of the law” to block the importing of PlayStation 3 into the various European markets before the official launch.

Sony has just recently managed to win a ruling that blocks Taiwanese import/export firm Lik-Sang from selling the Japanese version of Sony’s handheld PSP in Europe.

A spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) said in a statement: “The law is clear, and grey importing PS2, PSP or PS3 into the EU, without the express permission of SCEE is illegal. Therefore, we will utilize the full scope of the law to put a stop to any retailers who chose to do this.”

He further said: “Ultimately, we’re trying to protect consumers from being sold hardware that does not conform to strict EU or UK consumer safety standards.”
