Report claim Sony slips on launch units of Playstation 3 in Japan

Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun has said in a report that local gaming console manufacturer Sony would not manage to meet the promised number of PS3 units at the launch time.

The newspaper said that the number of consoles available in Japan would be less by around 20000 units at launch time.

The company had originally promised to make available as many as 100000 units at launch in Japan. They are now only expected to have around 80000 units.

Sony is having serious component shortage as they are going to launch the PS3 with a totally different Cell architecture and a Blu-Ray drive which itself is a little tested storage technology.

Sony would take on Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles with their Playstation 3 gaming console.
