Sony to issue a software update for Playstation 3 at launch

Sony Computer Entertainment has said that they would be issuing a software update for its PlayStation 3 games console the same time it is launched in the retail market.

Apparently, this new update was developed after the first shipment was prepared at their manufacturing facilities.

This first firmware update for the Playstation 3 console would add support for the PlayStation Network online service. It would be made available as a free download for the owners of the PS3 gaming console.

Newly buyers would be able to download this update from a menu item in the PlayStation 3.

The company has been updating the firmware for their Playstation Portable gaming console quite often. With both PSP and PS3 updated to the latest firmware updates, the PSP will be able to access contents stored on the PlayStation 3 via a wireless LAN connection using a system Sony has dubbed “Remote Play”.

Gamers would also be able to purchase and download content from the Playstation Network for their Playstation Portables.
