Nintendo Wii to get DVD playing capability next year
Japanese maker of videogame consoles Nintendo has said that they are aiming to launch an updated version of their Wii gaming console next year.
This updated Wii would have DVD playing capabilities. Interestingly, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles offer this functionality already but are much more expensive.
Sonic Solutions, makers of the popular Roxio CD- and DVD-burning software has said in a statement that they have been picked up by Nintendo to provide “high-quality DVD movie viewing to a future version” of the Wii. This updated version of Wii is expected to come in the market in the latter half of 2007.
Nintendo of America’s Public Relations Manager Matt Atwood confirmed the reports but said that they have yet not decided on the pricing of this updated gaming console.
