Sony Playstation 3 gaming console now on sale in USA

Sony has launched their next generation gaming console Playstation 3 in the United States. The company also added that more than 20 first and third party titles would soon be available at retailers in the near future for this console.

The Sony Playstation 3 console would take on Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii in the market. It is being offered in two variants. One of them features a 20 GB hard disk drive and is retailing for $499. The higher end model features a 60 GB HDD and built in Wi-Fi adapter and multiple memory card slots. It is being sold for $599.

Sony added that this console features the Cell Broadband Engine and comes with a Blu-Ray drive. It offer a true High Definition (1080p) next-generation gaming and movie experience in the home. The blu-ray discs offer up to 50 GB of data capacity.

Kaz Hirai, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America spoke on this launch: “With today’s launch of PS3, we are officially ushering in a new era in true next-generation entertainment for homes all across North America. The innovative PS3 system features powerful technologies and capabilities that have never been brought together in one system, including the Cell Broadband Engine, BD drive, HDD and online connectivity as standard features of every system. The results are breathtaking new interactive worlds to explore, eye-popping multimedia functionality, and a fully integrated online experience, all in high- definition clarity. The value we are providing consumers with PS3 is beyond compare.”
