Ken Kutaragi to become chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment
Sony Computer Entertainment has said in a statement that Ken Kutaragi is going to give up his day-to-day working activities at the functioning of their games division.
He would however become the new president of the Sony Computer Entertainment division. He is already the chief executive officer of this unit.
Kaz Hirai, head of the US operations would now become the president of the company taking over from Kutaragi.
Interestingly, these management changes come just within a month of the launch of the much-awaited Playstation 3 gaming console in the market.
Sony has been struggling with this console as it was massively delayed and Sony is still finding it troublesome to ship enough units in the market.
Sony Computer Entertainment spokeswoman Nanako Kato spoke on this new development: “Kutaragi will oversee the entire group operation as the group CEO but he’s handing over the day-to-day operation to Hirai and David Reeves. This appointment is to reinforce the management team and at the same time to train the next generation of management team. Eventually Hirai will be trained to take the role of Kutaragi. But it’s still too early for that and Kutaragi will remain as the group CEO.”
