Nintendo: Wii is not hurting sales of DS
Nintendo recently launched the Wii gaming console in all the three major markets around the world. The launch has been massively successful with the console being a sellout in all the markets.
Market analysts have claimed that the success of Wii would harm the sales of their other big selling gaming device DS.
Analysts believe that customers would be forced to choose between one of these two devices while shopping this holiday season.
Nintendo disagrees with this as Satoru Iwata responded in a statement: “Some analysts say the largest rival of the Wii is the DS. But if you take a look at DS sales in the United States in the Thanksgiving week or DS sales in Japan in the week of the Wii launch, there has been little impact.”
He further said: ” ‘Confidence’ could be too strong a word, but there is an emerging possibility.” He was referring to the recent statements that the company is hoping to overtake their estimated sales figure for the holiday season.
