Microsoft to launch Microsoft XNA Game Studio Express

Microsoft has said in a statement that they would be releasing development tools for their Xbox 360 gaming platform.

In addition, they would also be launching a new game-sharing service. Microsoft would also run a contest letting amateur game developers compete with each other to develop content for the platform.

They would be coming out with Microsoft XNA Game Studio Express which would be free for anyone with a Windows XP-based PC. This application is based on Microsoft’s Visual C# Express Edition and Microsoft’s .NET Compact Framework.

Microsoft has also launched its XNA Creators Club, allowing users to build and play their games on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game consoles. Chris Satchell, general manager of the Game Developer Group at Microsoft said: “The XNA Creators Club is really the first of its kind—an opportunity to join a community of other developers who are empowered to bring their game ideas to life on a next-generation console system.”
