Sony believes Nintendo Wii is a novelty purchase
It’s pretty clear that Nintendo is dominating Sony when it comes to sale of Wii gaming console compared to sales of Playstation 3 console.
However, Sony still believes that the real gamers in the market would prefer a PS3 over the Nintendo Wii.
Sony Computer Entertainment America communications exec Dave Karraker said in a statement: “We feel very confident that the PlayStation fan is going to wait until they can get a PlayStation 3. If they do pick up a Wii, it’s as more of a novelty.”
Interestingly, this was the same reaction from Sony when DS was launched and it was selling more units compared to the Sony PSP.

The true gamers themselves would buy and consoles instead of being a pussy and complain about the prices cause I would buy all three console if given the chances to buy the PS3 which will be in a couples of months after I saved up my money. You wannable hardcore gamers.

LikeI own an Xbox 360 for my shooters/action games and sports/racing games....I am also getting a Nintendo Wii because of the high quality first party games, and innovation...not to mention the price.
I purchased a PSX late in its generation when it was cheap because I wanted to play the Final Fantasy series and Metal Gear Solid...I purchased a PS2 and shunned the Xbox...If I ever purchase a PS3 it will be after several years when the price have drastically dropped, until then XBox 360 and a Wii for me...PS3 is way behind in production as well there will be several million units of each before PS3 gets to a million. PS3 really blew its lauch.

LikeWell. THe PS3 is not exactly as expensive as the XBOX 360 with the HD - DVD drive. It is a great console if you can afford its whooping $600 or $500 price tag...
The main reason why people like the wii is because it is the cheapest new gen console out there . In today's world of trimmed down salaries, It makes a huge difference. People will buy wii for the same reason as Hybrid cars!!.

LikeIt's funny. Most of those who call themselves "the real gamers in the market" are those who would rather choose innovative gameplay and affordability over graphics. Sony needs to get their head out of the clouds fast and realize that they've already lost the spotlight. :\
What a sad outcome for this gen's console wars. Imagine how great the PS3 could have been if Sony had remembered what made the Playstation our favorite console for the past 10 years...

I'm a 'real gamer' (Been playing since I was able to hold a controller!) and don't get me wrong, I love my PS2, but there's no way I'm going to pay that absolutely ridiculous jumped up amount for a PS3, and many gamers I know feel the same. Can't wait for my Wii though! (And it's got nothing to do with 'novelty', it's the innovation which Nintendo have always had and Sony have always shyed from.)

Like"the PlayStation fan"? Such a person does not exist. The PlayStation may have been the top selling format of the previous two generations, but 90% of that success is accountable to games like Grand Theft Auto, Pro Evolution Soccer and Splinter Cell. If there's one thing that the PlayStation does not have is an identity of its own, something that Nintendo has, and thus there is no thing as a special connection to the PS as there is with the Nintendo consoles.

LikeRule # 1...... never ever try to bring a competitor down by calling it names ie."novelty". It makes you sound very scared and weak.
