PS3 might be out but Playstation 2 still dominate the sales
Sony is the market leader when it comes to video gaming consoles. Their recently launched Playstation 3 console has seen a dull launch due to lack of supplies from the company.
However, they are still likely to sell huge quantities of their Playstation consoles due to the continuing popularity of previous generation Sony PS2.
BusinessWeek.com has said in a statement that the PS2 is likely to survive for another couple of years and it is likely to outsell the Playstation 3 in the coming years.
The media group reported: “In December video game maker Square Enix Co. began running prime-time TV ads in Japan featuring battle scenes from its new adventure game Seiken Densetsu 4, or Legend of the Sacred Sword. Every 30-second spot ended with a familiar logo: PlayStation. But the game isn’t played on Sony Corp.’s new PlayStation 3 console. It’s for the PlayStation 2. This might seem an odd time to launch an ad blitz for a game designed for the PS2, which has been around since 2000. Despite all the hype surrounding the PS3, its predecessor is likely to outsell it for two more years.”
Sony has seen sales of PS2 touching 103 million console by March last year. This year is expected to see sales of 11 million consoles. In comparison Sony is likely to sell just around 4 million PS3 by the end of the current financial year and that too looks like a tough target to meet.
