Square Enix to use Unreal Engine 3 for their games

Japanese videogame developers Square Enix has said in a statement that they have signed up Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 and they would be using this engine for their upcoming gaming titles.

The company has till now used its own gaming engines which they customize for each of their gaming titles. However, now they would have access to this high quality game engine to ensure both game quality and development efficiency.

Square Enix now aims to build a new technology platform that will be used companywide and will introduce third-party middleware.

Square Enix’s research and development division general manager, Taku Murata spoke on this new development: “The complexity of next-generation game systems featuring HD graphics and multicore parallel processing poses a number of technological challenges to our game development. However, we can expedite our game development process significantly while allowing extra time and resources to be spent on game design and mechanics by establishing an effective technology platform.”
