Electronic Arts to expand offerings for the Nintendo Wii console

Nintendo has become the hottest videogame console seller in the market with their Wii gaming console. The company has already sold more than 4 million console units in the market.

The wide availability of the console has led to Electronic Arts announcing that they would expand their offering for this platform in the coming months.

EA’s chief executive, Larry Probst said that they would build on its efforts with the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, but the largest boost would be for the Wii.

The company has had little to offer on the Wii platform with just 2 titles available on this platform in the most recent quarter. In comparison they launched four games for the Sony Playstation 3 and five games for the Microsoft Xbox 360 console in this period.

EA further said that they are currently working on as many as 15 new games for the Wii platform. Forrester Research analyst Paul Jackson talked about the videogaming industry: “In the past, Nintendo has typically had the best games coming from in-house, rather than third party developers. It makes sense, because if you publish your own games, it’s more profitable than just getting a licensing fee.”
