Sony to cut PS3 manufacturing cost to reduce losses
Playstation 3 gaming console manufacturer Sony has said that they are planning to cut the manufacturing cost of the console.
Sony is planning to totally eliminate a microchip from the European version of PS3 console which is required for backward compatibility with earlier generation of Playstation gaming consoles.
This would help them cut the losses and reach the stage of profitability fast. However, this news is going to disappoint a lot of games in European countries who are going to pay a premium price for the console.
Sony is due to launch the Playstation 3 console in Europe on March 23. The console is already available on sale in North America and Japan.
A Sony representative said that the European console would still be equipped with a different chip that processes graphics for PS2 games but the backward compatibility would be compromised.

This is just typical Sony: “Let’s cut features from our offering and at the same time increase the price!”
No one should support business ethics like that – and with the competitors’ products offering better value for money and improved performance, it is easy to leave Sony’s offering where it belongs: gathering dust on the store shelf.
