Blu-ray disc association aiming to make DVD obsolete in 3 years
The Blu-ray disc association has said that they aim to replace the older generation DVD format with their Blu-Ray format within the next three years.
The association said: “Within three years it will just be Blu-ray.” It is being represented by Frank Simonis, the Blu-ray Disc Association’s European chairman at the ongoing Frank Simonis, the Blu-ray Disc Association’s European chairman
The Blu-Ray technology offers up to five times more storage capacity than DVDs. this makes it a perfect medium for storing high definition films and other content.
However, the format has a much bigger challenger than the older generation DVD format. Toshiba and partners have developed their own HD DVD format which is challenging the Blu-Ray format in the market.
Blu-Ray camp has an advantage over the HD DVD camp as Sony is selling their Playstation 3 gaming console with a Blu-Ray drive. However, the HD DVD backers claim that the sale of media is almost comparable for both the formats.
