Microsoft might soon ship a Black Xbox 360

Market rumors suggest that the software giant Microsoft is expected to launch a black colored Xbox 360 gaming console.

Rumors are based on release of photos of such a unit in the April issue of Game Informer. There are reports that this updated Xbox 360 might feature a 120GB HDD, matching black accessories, HDMI output and HDMI cable.

Matt Helgeson, senior editor at Game Informer has been quoted as saying that this store and the image is not exactly an April Fool day prank.

Another interesting thing reported in the article is that the company is expected to sell the larger hard disk drive separately for “under $200.” This is good news for existing Xbox 360 gaming console owners.

The HD DVD drive is expected to remain an add-on as the company has already made it clear that they have no plans to launch an upgraded Xbox 360 with an internal HD DVD drive.

A Microsoft spokesperson said on these rumors: “We’re always working on prototypes and new technologies and just playing with stuff in Redmond to see what’s interesting. I think at the moment we have the widest available connections on the system. If you want to get great HD, I think we’ve got a good solution for that. At the moment, everything you might have seen is just looking at our experimentation back in Redmond, not really a product that we’re thinking about announcing.”
