Microsoft denies that Xbox Live service was breached
Software giant Microsoft has categorically said that their Xbox Live service was not breached. A couple of Live gamers have complained in the recent days that their accounts were hacked into.
Larry Hryb, Microsoft’s Xbox Live Director of Programming said in a blog post that the company is aware that malicious users had attempted to obtain personal information from gamers and use it to access the gamers’ Live accounts. However, they have not found any evidence supporting that the network was breached.
This issue got much publicity when earlier this week security researcher Kevin Finisterre announced that his Xbox Live account had been hacked.
Jupiter Research analyst Michael Gartenberg spoke on these new developments: “Microsoft is clearing using [the Marketplace] as a launch pad for the sale of other stuff. There’s a wide range of products and services that users can purchase there, and Microsoft wants them to feel comfortable doing so.”
He added: “Microsoft has gone to extraordinary lengths to insure that its users, who are part of the online ecosystem Microsoft has created, are protected. All indications are that Microsoft has done the right things; their security is extraordinary.”
