Neil Thompson: Playstation 3 is not that advanced compared to Xbox 360
Neil Thompson, Microsoft’s senior regional director for UK and Ireland has said in a statement that he does not feel that the Sony’s Playstation 3 gaming console offer the gamers anything new that is not already available in their Xbox 360 gaming console.
He said: “In the technology and gaming there’s really little in the PS3 where I can say, ‘Gosh, I wish we had that’. The biggest threat that Sony has for us is the brand that’s been established around it.”
Sony has just released their Playstation 3 gaming console in the European market and now they are in full competition to both Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
Thompson however accepted that the PlayStation’s graphics would give the Xbox a run for its money. Although he argued that the Xbox 360 has a better online gaming service and better availability of gaming titles.
He said: “You have to have a range and quality of gaming content. More and more we’re seeing that the online experience is a really important factor. Sony have come up with an online world that seems to let you do just about everything except gaming.”
The funny thing here is that Xbox 360 has one year advantage over Playstation 3 considering it was launched in 2005.

Yea, this is a bunch of bull. I owned a Xbox 360, and yes
online system featuring Xbox Live and stuff for the moment it
is nicer. But i dont want to pay for anything. I cant even buy it out for good cause its going to ask to renew? no thanks. Id rather save that $ 50 and get a game for PS3. But just wait man! cause PS3 is going to explode into the system it is. I have it, and its fricken amazing. my 360 froze cause i wanted to view a profile. haha
junk, then i overheated and sent it in and waited 1 month. It just junk put together. It looks like the Dell Dimension 4600c. Maybe same performance. I havent had the PS3 freeze once. Just 1 common error fixed by a update. Have you seen one at least? maybe not. Your just against whats better. Listen youwant Quailty get PS3. want junk get xbox, and when you do shake it a little. See how it rattles.

Playstation 3 has not enough going for it for the $$$. We are at Duo Core at the PC Level with Quad Core coming in the summer of 2007.
Microsoft isn’t stupid, Xbox 360 beats the Playstation 3 and the Wii may win the popular vote on gameplay.
Remember the Sega Master System, The Sega 32Bit, The Sega Saturn, The Atari Jaguar…Playstation 1 took them all down with gameplay.

Thats a bunch of bull I have owend 3 Xbox 360 and they all did the same thing, they froze up on me,and dameged brand new games I paid 50 bucks for that same day,I spent more money on the Xbox 360 then I will ever spend on the PS3.I called the XBOX helpline to find out why my brand new xbox games were getting damege and all they can say was “thats imposible” they are just as smart as this Neil guy.The PS3 is the best thing I paid $700 for,and I will continue to support the PS3.So to this mr.Neil Thompson and your XBOX 360 fans keep dreaming,oh and “gosh” stop comparing PS3 to your weak 360 the PS3 is on the rise just wait and see get your facts right.
I got both systems,and ummm the PS3 is quieter, more of the living room hub that is hyped up to be, the xbox 360 well, it’s cheap plastic with face covers for sale that should actually come with games as an incentive to buy one other then Gears of War or the recycled UBISoft Games..

The one thing that the ps3 does offer that xbox doesn’t is a system that doesn’t break down after 5 months of use… Apparently xbox’s are supposed to be like disposble cameras..
i agree with PS3 User. no one wants to pay for internet service. Think about it it’s like 30 per month after 12 months, it comes down to $360. While the ps3 service is FREE. which makes sense because microsoft isn’t providing you with the internet but only the online support. Everyone is so busy bashing this system before it got off the ground, people lighten up!!!! even xbox didn’t have great titles it’s first year…. Remeber this sorry game, Perfect Dark, the next generation for shooters (yeah right!!).
What a load of bull crap. Neil Thompson can go smoke monkey pole. who is he to say theres no “GOSH” factor. The Poo60 just breaks, chews up the disc`s, overheats and many other things. The only advantage is the fact its been out a yr longer than the PS3.
The results for video game console sales for February are in:
* 335,000 Nintendo Wiis
* 228,000 Xbox 360s
* 127,000 Sony PlayStation 3s
This means that 48.5% of the new video game systems sold in February were Nintendo Wiis. That’s a big ouch for Sony, whose high-tech new system appears to be struggling for consumer acceptance with Nintendo’s less-tech, but more fun, Wii. Interestingly, Sony’s PlayStation 2 sold 95,000 units because of its recently reduced price of $129. The strong sales there indicate that the PlayStation 3’s launch price of more than $500 was prohibitvely high, and that PlayStation customers are happy to just buy the old system.
In some ways, the slow sales of the PlayStation 3 appear to be a flashback to the launch of the 3DO in 1993. While the unit was way ahead of its time technologically (it was among the first to offer CDs instead of cartridges), its high price point (among other factors) put it at a competitive disadvantage compared to simpler, less expensive systems like Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.
Perhaps Sony will lower the price (they are already taking a loss on each system sold) to increase the user-base for new video games. Right now, developers will be much more inclined to work with the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, which have sold 2 times and 5 times as many units as the PlayStation 3, respectively.
Interestingly, Atari founder, Nolan Bushnell, was predicting that the PlayStation 3 would “fail” even before it was released. In November, he told Red Herring that “I think Sony shot themselves in the foot … there is a high probability [they] will fail. The price point is probably unsustainable. For years and years Sony has been a very difficult company to deal with from a developer standpoint. They could get away with their arrogance and capriciousness because they had an installed base. They have also historically had horrible software tools. You compare that to the Xbox 360 with really great authoring tools [and] additional revenue streams from Xbox live … a first party developer would be an idiot to develop for Sony first and not the 360. People don’t buy hardware, they buy software.”
If the second part of Bushnell’s hypothesis comes true (developers being in no rush to produce software for the PlayStation 3), Sony could be in serious trouble.

The Xbox 360, was rushed into the market. That is why there are faults with so many- not all- units. The best feature that the PS3 offers the consumer is bing a blu-ray player for movies. The Wii is actually the most innovative games console. As it provides a unique and different gaming experiance thanks to the controller.
Sony will regret their pricing strategy in 6 months in the UK market. Wait and you will see a BIG price cut. That is why the Wii is doing so well, Nintendo decided to make a loss on each unit sold as they knew the games sales would make up for it.
I agree with most of you comment “consumer”. However, one point is not quite accurate. Nintendo does infact make a slight profit on every Wii sold.
Sony, on the other hand loses money every time they sell a PS3. It is actually quite reasonably priced for what you get. Sony’s problem is that it is still a Video Game system, and $500 - $700 and even more for a video game system is perhaps a bit too expensive for the average gamer.
I feel Sony has backed themselves into a corner. They are priced too high on a system they still lose money on. Any price cut made will cost them more and more money. It will be interesting to see how the next year or so plays out.
sony suck man i have a ps3 and there is no real difference between xbox 360 and ps3 but bule ray and that ps3 a quiter! and to the person that said xboxs are ment t break after 5 months get a life i have had both xbox and 360 and never had any problems! and u say ur new game was broken ?? why not bring it back u muppet ?? its not that hard !! i got loads of ps2 games that were faulty !

The 360 do have problems , mine broke with 3 red lights 3 weeks ago , since this happened i decided to trade it in for a playstaion 3 , Wow what a great machine , how surprised i,ve been with all the negative press , playstation 3 is by far the most advanced system i have ever played , very happy i changed

All i can say to that is what a load of **** , play motorstorm , look at the mud , now this is all ready ahead of anything i,ve played on the 360 including Gears of War , just imagine what will be available on the ps3 12 months from now.
Motorstorm is the best game , most adictive game i have played in years , it is ******* brilliant , try it then you will see the future ,
I love how M$ is going on about how the PS3 isn’t that advanced.. hmm thats funny. which console has a NEXT GEN DVD player out of the box, HDMI out of the Box, WiFi out of the box, a fairly good HD size, and 1080p out of the box.
Not to mention M$ is scrambling to get Xbox 360 Elite out, because they realized their console was rushed to the market.
And the only reason it has a larger user base is because it was out first and people just wanted something advanced… not very advanced now is it ?
BTW I don’t know a PS3 or a 360, I’m just going on facts here. ( my brother owns a PS3, and a friend owns a 360. So i have played them both )
